Hi all,
I am Ishmael Kimirei from Tanzania. An aquatic ecologist who is trying find footing in climate change and water resources. I work both in the freshwater and marine environment. I have a specific affinity for fish and their habitats. As a result, I study movement and connectivity between fish and their habitats. I also study ecotoxicology and recently looking at the impacts of the expansion of coastal cities on coastal marine habitats such as mangroves and seagrasses. I am based on the eastern shores of the second deepest lake in the world, Lake Tanganyika, and studying how climate change and warming are affecting its functioning (productivity) and fisheries.
I work for the Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI). Currently, however, I am based at the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Science (NIGLAS), as a Visiting Research Fellow under the CAS-PIFI fellowship, which ends this April.
I will, of course, be happy to strike some cords with whoever whats to collaborate on these and other issues related to Ocean Acidification, for example.
Cheers!
IA Kimirei (TAFIRI)
