PhD student position in EU Horizon 2020
VacPath is an EU funded project, which aims to promote excellence in fundamental vaccine research. The network allows five academic European research groups and two SMEs to join forces. The partner labs situated in The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark and Italy contribute their respective expertise in vaccine immunology and vaccine delivery platforms to complement each other in a project centered around Chlamydia trachomatis as a main model pathogen. Out of a total of 10 PhD student positions in the consortium the University of Basel currently has one position still open for highly motivated, skilled and hard-working PhD student. The successful candidate will be appointed at University of Basel and will receive additional training through courses and secondments at partner laboratories in the network.
As a PhD student in VacPath you will design, construct, and test innovative arenavirus-based vaccine vectors. You will investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms leading to protective cellular and humoral immunity upon immunization, with the ambition to rationally optimize vaccine design and immunization strategies. Your responsibilities will include wetlab work and animal experimentation, from design to data analysis and manuscript preparation and the communication with network partners. You will have the opportunity to work in different European laboratories and get an impression of different research cultures.
The available position will be hosted at the following research group:
University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland; group of Prof. Dr. D. Pinschewer
Project: Arenavirus-based vaccine vectors to enhance T cell and antibody
