Research Fellow in Machine Learning and Data Science (ERDF System Analytics for Innovation Project) ¶

ASTON UNIVERSITY is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral Research Fellow to join a collegiate team of computer scientists and mathematicians, in the broad areas of AI, machine learning, and data analytics. You will be be part of a team of experts working on the Think Beyond Data initiative (https://thinkbeyonddata.com), delivering technology transfer of leading edge ideas and research into the commercial and industrial sectors. You will have expertise in one or more of machine learning, optimisation, complex system modelling, data understanding, information and pattern analysis, signal processing, or visual analytics.
This is an exciting opportunity to carry out industry-relevant research, directly engaging with businesses, and based in an interdisciplinary academic team. You will be required to carry out high quality cutting-edge research, leading to publications in top international venues. There may be opportunities to be involved in teaching.
You will be comfortable meeting and working with multiple small companies, from a range of industry sectors. You will explore their business context, aspirations, and research requirements on problems with a commercial focus, and deliver advice, prototypes and research results.
You will have good interpersonal skills to interact directly across academia and industry and from technical to managerial levels. An ability to develop formal problem specifications and capturing systems requirements from commercial problem domains will be as important as your problem solving abilities. You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline.
The post is a fixed-term contract, with an expiry date of 31/7/2020.
