First names identifiable?

First names identifiable?

I would like to know the names by which mentees like to be known. Some give their names surname first, some surname last. Some have very long names so are probably known by a shortenrd one. I recall in Gemany, where, however, very few have more than one first name, official forms ask for the name that the person is known by to be underlined. Since I am known by my second, but tend to be addressed by my first, I wish this way of distinguishing was more common.

Dear Dr. Lucas (Is that the best way to address you?),

This is indeed a confusing thing for many of us, especially when dealing with people from different cultures. Perhaps we should include this in the guidelines! There is a space in the settings for a 'signature' (you can see mine below) where people can include their name and details on all posts.

Best wishes

Andy
